Depoe Bay Hike

Why not start with a hike in town? Take the steps down from the Whale Watching Center, located near Channel House and follow the sidewalk along the seawall in town to Depoe Bay Scenic Park. Here you will find picnic benches amongst shaded shore pines.
Depoe Bay Scenic View Area
Located on the west side of Coast Avenue, this walk offers a spectacular ocean view at the end. While this isn’t an actual trail, this hidden spot is one of the more memorable spots along the Oregon Coast. With its rocky landscape, intense wave action, and of course beautiful views, it’s worth the short walk down the stairs. Visitors will find this hidden spot at the north end of town near Vista Avenue and Sunset Avenue.
Fishing Rock Trail

This easy 0.5-mile trail located near Depoe Bay is a quick and easy hike that offers spectacular views for not a lot of work. The short walk leads hikers amongst a dense forest of trees out to a wide-open viewpoint with Lincoln City to the north and Depoe Bay to the south. There are several vantage points from the trail that provide different area views. Be sure to bring your binoculars and keep your eyes open for breaching whales!

Cascade Head Trail
30 minutes north of Depoe Bay is a challenging yet rewarding trail that will take your breath away with its beautiful views and elevation climb. Cascade Head Trail is a 6.8-mile out and back hike that is accessible from the top or bottom of the National Forest area. Hikers will climb 270 feet in the first 2/10 of a mile to a grove of Sitka spruce. From here the trail levels out until the last stretch of the hike to a vista offering stunning panoramic views of the Oregon Coast.
Cape Perpetua Scenic Area

Take in some of the best hiking along the Oregon Coast at Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. While not all the trails guide you along the coast, the extensive trail system offers some of the best coastal views in the state. With 26 miles of trails that cut through the thick rainforest of the Siuslaw National Forest to the top of the cape, hikers are met with several unique landmarks – Thor’s Well, Devil’s Churn, Spouting Horn, and Cape Cove.
Hecta Head State Park
Located roughly an hour south of Depoe Bay, Hecta Head State Park offers a quick half-mile hike bringing you to the lighthouse at Hecta Head State Park. Or extend your hike and choose to explore the several miles of the Oregon Coast Trail from this scenic viewpoint.
Bonus: Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint
Roughly one mile north of Depoe Bay is Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint. The rugged rocks at Boiler Bay is a great place to watch wild surf action up close. The panoramic views offer ample opportunity to spot whales and coastal birds. At low-tide, be sure to keep your eye out for shipwreck of the J. Marhoffer that sank in 1910. There is a nice designated path, perfect for walking around and taking in the scenery.
