Is Tula Worth the Hype? An Honest Review

Is tula good for hormonal acne

I know we’ve all seen those little robins-egg-blue bottles all over Instagram, and for many of us, I’m sure what immediately comes to mind is, “what’s the deal with Tula? Is it really worth the hype?”

There is nothing I love more than a little beauty investigation, so a few years ago when I saw Tula start to pop up all over the ‘Gram, I had to see what it was all about. These days, we know Tula as every influencer’s favorite skincare brand, but years ago, what initially caught my eye was Tula was one of the very first skincare brands to use probiotics as a key ingredient. And if you’re been following along for some time now, you KNOW I swear by probiotics.

I’ve struggled with cystic acne since college, and one of the biggest game-changers for me was starting to take a daily probiotic. So when I saw a skincare brand grounded in the exact ingredient that continues to make such an impact on my skin, I HAD to give it a try. And let me tell you: I am SO glad I did.

Is Tula Worth the Hype?

So I’ll cut to the chase: is Tula worth the hype? In my opinion: ABSOLUTELY. And let me tell you, I am one critical skincare tester, so I’ll always give you a very honest review.

Having acne-prone, oily skin, a lot of cult-classic, Instagram-favorite skincare products just don’t work for me. They are too thick, too strong, too irritating, or just don’t do what I need them to do without causing an even worse acne flare-up. But my experience with Tula has been nothing but great and I am so glad I came across this clean, probiotic-packed skincare brand years ago! Just like every skincare line, not every product has been a total win for me, but I can safely say, a majority of them have made a huge impact on my skin.

My love for Tula has come a long way since I bought my first product years ago, and now I am so excited to be a Glowbassador for them, as well, giving me the chance to learn so much more about what really goes into their quality, clean skincare products. So, today I am excited to round up my very favorite Tula products that have made a huge impact on my skin and have created a lasting spot in my skincare routine.

An Honest Review of the Best Tula Products

Over the years, I’ve tried out a lot of Tula products, so today I’m excited to share with you my favorites that are worth the hype. For any of the products below, or any others you want to give a shot, you can use my code 15KYLIE for 15% off your first purchase!

Tula Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser

First things first, I have to give a shoutout to the very first Tula product I ever purchased: their Cult Classic Face Cleanser! This cleanser is the real deal, my friends. I have been using it for years now, and I have never used a more gentle face wash that also washes off all of your makeup! It’s so effective, but not the least bit irritating. The bottle is also HUGE and will last you forever, so it’s worth every penny. I love a more gentle, calming cleanser, as the next steps in my routine use some more powerful ingredients and I don’t want to go overboard, so this cleanser has been perfect.

Tula Pro-Glycolic 10% Resurfacing Toner

The second product I ever put to the was this toner and has been another product I’ve been using for YEARS! I remember one of my OG favorite bloggers Katey McFarland said whenever people ask her for help with their wedding skincare routine, she recommends this product as it helps to even out and brightens your skin tone. And who doesn’t want a wedding-worthy glow all of the time?

Katey did not let me down; this toner absolutely does help even out your skin tone, and it’s really helped to shrink my pores, as well. I’ve loved this toner for years and couldn’t go without it. I apply it right to my face to save product; no cotton pad needed!

Tula Rose Glow and Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm

Tula’s eye balms are truly unlike any other product on the market which is why I love them SO much! If you follow along on Instagram, I’m sure I sound like a broken record saying this: but truly, this eye balm wakes me up faster than coffee. The cooling effect is incredible! So not only does it help to visually wake up tired eyes, but it physically helps to wake your mind too, so you can glow and get it.

Before the pink version come out, I loved the original blue eye balm, but once the Rose Glow and Get It Balm hit the market, I had to get my hands on it and I haven’t looked back. I think the warmer tone looks a lot more natural and I love the addition of rosehip oil, one of my favorite skincare ingredients.

Tula 24/7 Day and Night Moisturizer

I’ll be honest with you: I didn’t think this product was going to work on my skin, but boy was I wrong. It took me a while to finally give it a try, but its cult following convinced me, and I promised you an investigation! I gave it a shot after years (truly, years) of avoiding it because I thought it would be far too thick for my oily, acne-prone skin, but it proved me wrong. It looks incredibly creamy, but it’s actually so lightweight and non-comedogenic so it won’t clog your pores.

If you have oily, acne-prone skin: fear not! I love this amazing moisturizer that leaves my skin so hydrated and plump.

Tula Dew Your Thing Oil-Free Gel Cream

Another amazing moisturizer, especially for my oily skin, acne-prone gals is Tula’s Oil-Free Gel Cream. While I do love the 24/7 moisturizer, this one is even lighter and perfect for summer months when your skin is extra oily, or during that time of the month where you are working extra hard to fight those breakouts.

It’s so hydrating, gives you a dewy, supple glow, isn’t the least bit greasy, and is really amazing on acne-prone skin.

Tula Face Filter Blurring & Moisturizing Primer

Another product that is truly worth the hype: Tula’s blurring primer that is TRULY a filter for your face. You have to see it to believe it. It creates a soft blur, minimizing your pores and imperfections but adds a bit of a tanned tint that gives you the most beautiful glow.

It’s my go-to product for no-makeup days, but is also amazing under makeup for an even smoother application.

Tula So Smooth Resurfacing and Brightening Fruit Enzyme Mask

This is a new-to-me face mask that I don’t think gets nearly as much hype as it deserves! When your significant other notices a change in your skincare routine, you know your products are doing something right, and Ilir told me my skin looked glowy minutes after doing this mask without knowing I tried something new – and not once, but twice! So it wasn’t just him sweet-talking me. 😉

It helps to even out your skin tone and reduce signs of acne scars so well and didn’t irritate my skin at all. It’s packed with AHA, BHA and PHA gentle acids that give you a more calming exfoliating, so you can toss that aggressive scrub in the garbage and save your skin.

Tula Detox in a Jar Exfoliating Treatment Mask

Another great masking option: this amazing detox mask from Tula! Perfect for oily, acne-prone skin, this clay mask does wonders. It actually was the very first face mask I ever used from Tula, so it’s been in my routine for years now.

Hot tip: you can also use it as a spot treatment to shrink a flare up!

Tula Beauty Sleep Overnight Repair Treatment

I recently fell in LOVE with this product and am so happy I discovered it! On Sunday evenings, I do a clay mask to pull out any impurities, and then lather this on before bed. The next morning, my skin is smooth, even and so, so soft! This overnight treatment is packed with probiotics, AHA’s and vitamin C, so it’s perfect for anyone looking to even out their skin tone or prolong signs of aging.

My Take On Tula

I’ve spent years testing a variety of Tula products, so I can safely say there is something for everyone. Personally, my skincare concerns have been centered around reducing acne flare-ups, getting rid of scarring, and achieving that natural glow we all dream of, and I’ve found so many products that have helped me tremendously with just this. But if you’re on the hunt for an anti-aging routine or products to help with hydration, I am certain you will find something you love, too. Tula is made for everyone and you can feel confident making a Tula purchase and knowing each and every one of their products are packed with quality ingredients.

Have blemishes? Me too! Today is all about the new Tula Acne Gel. I’ve endearingly been calling this week “beauty boot camp” as I’ve shared anti-aging patches on Insta Stories, a favorite drugstore shampoo, I’ll share skincare for oily skin later this week….and today?! Today I’m sharing the Tula Acne Gel I’ve been learning about for over a year!

Naturally, one of my favorite parts of blogging is product testing. I get the opportunity to test products before they hit the market and give feedback to brands. I’ll let them know how my skin reacted, send pictures, and document the process. Did you know I don’t even share over half those products?! I try to ask myself a series of questions like: “Would someone buy this multiple times?” “Would I repurchase this?” “Can I think of three friends that would love this product?” “Has a reader e-mailed me for a product like this before?”

So it’s quite rare when I test a product and months before the launch I say, “Can I know the exact date this launches? I want to review it before it sells out.” Without this being a collaboration, I’m not necessarily privy to that information, but TULA was so kind to share the launch week with me. Because y’all, this has made such a difference in my hormonal acne issues. Let’s dig deeper.

I don’t know about you, but I get hormonal acne. I can’t take any hormonal medication, so it can be frustrating to try to fight something I know I’m going to get due to internal factors. I’ll get painful blemishes on my cheeks *each* cycle, and the pattern looks the same.

Breakout during cycle.
BATHE in acne cream to dry it out.
Peel the next week.
Left with pink spots from said blemish.
Use a bajillion creams to remove pink spot.
Cycle and blemish happens again.

Is this getting too TMI? I’m passionate about skincare, so forgive me! Being in my twenties, I don’t think this is slowing down anytime soon- and oh the irony of skincare in your twenties. You can wake up with a new fine line or a new blemish each day- you just never know. ha!

In comes the TULA Acne Clearing + Tone Correcting Gel. I’ve been learning about this product for over a year and photographed my very first cycle using this product. To make this a fair assessment, I kept everything else the same in my routine and photographed Day 1 of cycle.

Y’all, this is huge. The blemishes never got out of control. I never had peeling. I never had irritation. I never felt like my skin was in pain. Why is that? Because this is actually a healthy way to help with acne.

In the past year that I have been learning about the Tula Acne Gel {along with other acne-fighting ingredients on the market}, and I was informed that most ingredients on the market only work because they irritate.

This is the first ever FDA-approved OTC Acne treatment gel that is actually good for your skin! The probiotics are clinically proven to calm skin inflammation- which is the leading cause of acne. The probiotics then act to balance the good and bad bacteria in your skin, and at the end, they strengthen your skin barrier so it responds to the salicylic acid {the FDA approved acne fighter}. If you damage your skin barrier, it won’t respond well to products- whether that be retinol for anti-aging or serums for brightening. By using this acne gel daily, I am helping ward off future acne, fighting current, and healing my skin barrier from previous blemishes.

The Tula Acne Clearing + Tone Correcting Gel contains 2% salicylic acid, probiotics, azelaic acid to fade the pink marks left behind, willowherb & hyaluronic acid to naturally prevent the dryness and flakes. There is no alcohol, fragrance, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, Mineral Oil, Toxins, Dyes or Irritation. It is also 100% cruelty-free. 96% of testers saw an improvement in their skin in just the first 3 weeks. You can see in the photos above I saw a huge difference in just 2 with the Tula Acne Gel and no other changes!

If you suffer more intense acne, you would first use the Tula Purifying Cleanser, then treat with the Acne Clearing Gel and then finish with the Gel Moisturizer– or gel moisturizer of your choice!

You’ll pump the Tula Acne Gel into your hands and rub on your face, concentrating on the acne spots. You can have this product act in place of your toner, but y’all know I’m excessive so I treat it as a serum {You can do either!}. This is my day routine:

Face Wash, Tone, SK-II Essence, Eye Cream{testing a new one right now!}, Acne Serum, Vitamin C Serum, Moisturizer

My night routine is a whole other ballgame complete with masks and Glopro-ing and such. But I still keep those first steps the same:

Makeup Remover, Face Wash, Tone, Essence, Eye Cream, Acne Serum — then I either mask, use retinol, use oils, use moisturizer- it all depends on the day! {If I use my Sio sheets I do it after I use Essence.}

You can get the Acne Clearing Kit with the products I use {face wash, Tula acne gel, day moizturizer} for $95 when it is a $112 value. BUT you can actually get it for less with my discount code “Katey” at checkout. Your total will be $76, so you’re saving $36!

I feel like this was a mouthful, but what else is beauty boot camp for?! I’ve been receiving a lot of inquiries for personalized skincare routines {I totally get what works for me routine wise, may not work for you. I use COF to review and share my favorites!} and more posts on my up-to-date skincare routine. I feel like this is something that needs to be a video as it’s just easier to “chat” skincare. So we will see what comes from this, I tried to brainstorm yesterday how I can help the most in this realm. But I do hope this Tula Acne GEl helps anyone that suffers acne, whether it is hormonal like me or cystic or related to stress! If you have oilier skin, don’t worry. I’m sharing a few skincare and makeup recommendations for you on Friday, too!

Have a fabulous day, friends! I’m off to do my ridiculous skincare routine that I absolutely love! Let me know what you would prefer. More personalized skincare routines {dry skin, oily skin, under $100} OR a long video on skincare?!

P.S. My discount code “Katey” doesn’t work on auto-ship as that is already a discount. You have to click “one-time purchase” to get the 20% off my code gives you!
